"And that's how I ended up on this shelf!" I made sure to say with a smile on my face. The man across from me just tilted his head in confusion. "Is something still wrong? I thought I did a pretty good job at explaining why my head is here."

"Yeah, but..." he said while crossing his arms. He seemed to be at a loss for words. "Okay, I get that you're only being rented out and not actually for sale. But why are you actually.. ya know.. on?"

"What?" It took me a second to realize what he meant. But I got it. "Oh! Well that's easy. Since I volunteered for this, I'm left on so I can let people know why my head isn't for sale. I uh, hold on." I needed to blow my hair out of my face, since my hands were else where in the store. I wasn't getting much done, but thankfully the customer brushed my black hair behind my ear and out of my hair. "Thank you! Now where was I? Oh right. Normally there are a lot more rental heads out on display, but we are near closing time and I seem to be the last one left. Weekends tend to be our most busy days after all."

The man put his hands on his hips and leaned in closer to my face, checking out my features. "Well I don't see no one has grabbed you yet. You're very pretty and from what I've experienced, you have a great personality." He straightens back up as I gave a smile back too him. "Honestly, I was only caught off guard because I had no idea 'rentals' were a thing they did with these kinda shops."

I did my best to recall some facts. "Yeah, I guess it's a new trend. When I found out you can actually choose to do this for a little extra cash, it sounded like a really fun offer! I think it's to promote sales or something? I mean you can only have them hire you if they happen to have your model for sale. Luckily they did here so here I am. A head on a shelf!"

The man ran his hand through his dirty blonde hair. His really, nicely styled dirty blonde hair. "Right, you told me about that already. Say, if you're just a head now, where is the rest of you?"

I did my best to look around the store, but with no neck, it was hard. "Oh, um. I don't know specifically. But it's actually for sale, so you would need to check the correct aisle."

He was really caught off guard by this. "For sale? Wait, then what will happen to your head.. or I guess just you, when you're done with this rental business?"

"Oh, well that's the best part! When I'm done, they recollect anything that didn't sell back together on me. And if anything does sell, they provide me with a new part as a replacement. So I get some cash AND new parts. It's win/win, really!"

This guy was really shocked. Yeah, I am pretty impressive! But he regained himself and started asking more questions. "Well, that's great. So, this is a bit late and I hope you don't mind me asking, but what's your name? I'm very interested in this business."

I just gave him a sly smile. "If you want to learn my name, you'll need to rent me out for the night."

He caught on fast. "Oh I see. Now that's a great marketing scheme." He reaches out and takes my head off the shelf. "How can I refuse that offer?"
It's been a long time since I've wrote something. Like over a year, even. I guess I just wasn't in a writing mood.

But the urge came back. I only did a little something to get back into the game. Consider this a small sample of maybe a comeback. Maybe.

But this story is kind of a weird one. I wasn't sure if I should have the subjects be people or robots, so I left it a little vague. Make of it as you will. I'll probably go with the most popular answer if I go and continue this.
